District Advancement Chair

Job Description

The District Advancement and Recognition Chair is a high-level volunteer administrative position within Scouting America. Reporting to the District Committee Chair, this individual is responsible for upholding national standards, monitoring youth rank progression, and overseeing adult awards within their geographic territory.

The most vital aspect of this role involves administering the final steps of the Eagle Scout rank and maintaining the district's Merit Badge Counselor roster.

Core Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the District Advancement Chair span across compliance, youth advancement, and volunteer management:

  • Eagle Scout Rank Administration: Review and approve Eagle Scout Service Project proposals before work begins. Coordinate, assign district representatives to, or personally chair Eagle Scout Boards of Review to ensure strict adherence to Scouting America national protocols.

  • Merit Badge Counselor Management: Recruit, register, and train local adults to serve as Merit Badge Counselors. Review credentials and maintain an up-to-date, vetted district counselor roster.
