District Executive
Job Description
A District Executive (DE) is the foundational professional management role within Scouting America. A DE functions as the strategic manager and "operational officer" of a specific geographic territory (district) within a local Scouting council.

Rather than working directly with youth, a District Executive manages the operations by recruiting, training, and guiding adult volunteers and community leaders who deliver the program.
Â
Core Responsibilities
The duties of a District Executive are highly diverse and generally divided into four core areas:
-
Sales & Membership Development: Partner with schools, religious entities, and civic organizations to establish new Scouting units. Drive annual youth and adult recruitment campaigns to grow membership across the district.
-
Fundraising & Finance: Work closely with volunteer committees to lead annual "Friends of Scouting" donation campaigns. Coordinate product sales (like popcorn) and special events to meet the council's operational budget.
-
Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and inspire adult volunteers. Support the "District Key 3" (District Chair, District Commissioner, and the DE) to ensure local leadership runs smoothly.
-
Administration & Service: Serve as the formal link between local Scout units and the regional council office. Manage district records, track goals, and help organize large-scale events like camporees and volunteer training.
